Open almost any bread baking book and you’re likely to see beautiful, fancy breads accompanied by recipes and instructions that will make any bread baking beginner shake her head in frustration. If you’ve never baked a loaf of bread before, the prospect of starting looks daunting. Stop worrying!
Easier Than You Think
Put away the bread baking books and read carefully: Bread baking is easy! Anyone can learn to bake a delicious loaf of bread. All you need is a bit of confidence and a gentle nudge towards the kitchen.
Start Small
Start with a basic white bread recipe, such as the super easy bread recipe for beginners. Get used to the bread making process by making several loaves of the same bread. When you feel comfortable with the steps, move on to try new recipes, such as buttermilk bread.
Get Started
Most of the people that come to me for bread baking lessons are nervous about messing up. To help them overcome their anxiety, I have them follow these basic steps:
- Clean off counter space.
- Read through the ingredients list and set all the ingredients on your counter.
- Read through all the instructions before you begin.
- After you understand the instructions, begin working on your first loaf of bread one step at a time.
After you’ve baked your first loaf of bread, you’ll wonder what all the fuss was about!
