There are two things I love about banana bread: it tastes great and its so easy to make. This simple banana bread recipe has a touch of nutmeg in it, giving the bread a soft, spicy flavor while not going overboard. It can be baked at any time and frozen for later use. Makes one loaf.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour, 15 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 3 overly ripe bananas
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 cup crushed walnuts
Preparation:
- In large bowl, mix ingredients in the order given.
- Scrape batter into greased and floured bread loaf pan.
- Bake at 325 degrees F for about 75 minutes or until inserted knife comes out clean.
To freeze, wrap bread in aluminum foil and bag. Freeze for up to one month.
