One of my favorite summer activities is heading out to the wild blueberry patches and picking enough blueberries to fill my freezer for the fall and winter months. This way, I can make blueberry muffins and lemon blueberry bread year round. Dry packing blueberries is an easy way to preserve blueberries for baking.
1. Sort and WashSort and wash freshly picked blueberries. Remove stems and compost green or imperfect blueberries.
2. Dry BlueberriesGently pat blueberries dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels.
3. Freeze BlueberriesSpread one layer of blueberries out on a cookie sheet and place in freezer. Freeze for 4 hours or until blueberries are frozen.
4. Pack BlueberriesStore frozen blueberries in plastic freezer bag or container. Keep frozen until your are ready to use the blueberries in your favorite bread or muffin recipe.
