Buttermilk Walnut Bread

Looking for a quick, easy bread to make for the holidays? Need a recipe that the kids can help out with? Buttermilk walnut bread is a super-easy quick bread recipe that’s not too sweet and tastes great on all occasions. The breads also make beautiful gift breads.

Yield: 2 loaves

Prep Time: 8 minutes

Cook Time: 45 minutes

Total Time: 53 minutes


  • 3-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1-1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 med. eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 cups buttermilk, cold
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts


  1. Preheat oven 350 degrees F. Grease two 8 X 4-inch loaf pans. In large bowl, mix together flour, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt. Add eggs and buttermilk. Stir until flour is wet. Stir in nuts. Scrape batter into 2 greased loaf pans. Bake loaves at 350 degrees F for 45-50 minutes or until inserted knife comes out clean. Let loaves sit in pan for 10 minutes before turning out. Let cool completely on rack before wrapping. Completely cool loaves can be wrapped and frozen for up to 3 months.
