Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Start it out right with these delicious muffins made with sour cream. These muffins go great with nearly every type of breakfast meal, from eggs and bacon to sausage and grapefruit.

Yield: 12 muffins

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Total Time: 30 minutes


  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 Tbsp shortening
  • 1-1/3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda


  1. Grease twelve-cup muffin tin. Preheat oven 400 degrees F. In medium bowl, beat egg. Mix in sugar, sour cream, shortening, flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.

  2. Fill muffin cups 2/3 full. Bake at 400 degrees F for 20 to 25 minutes, or until firm. Remove muffins from tin and serve hot with butter and jam.
