Every cook knows that you simply cannot have just one recipe for cornbread. Since it’s so easy to make and there are innumerable variations of cornbread to try out, many of us go on collecting, adapting, and creating our very own cornbread recipes.

Perfectly yellow cornbread is my favorite cornbread recipe. The bread is firm, moist, and cuts without crumbling to bits. Makes 9 servings.

Prep Time: 8 minutes

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Total Time: 33 minutes


  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 4 tsp baking powder


  1. Preheat oven 400 degrees F.

  2. In medium bowl, mix cornmeal, flour, sugar, and salt.

  3. Mix in milk, eggs, and melted butter.

  4. Stir in baking powder.

  5. Pour batter into greased 8 x 8 inch pan. Bake at 400 degrees F for 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
